GOALS FOR A NEW FANNIN SHERIFF’S OFFICE
1. To be a Sheriff that is available to the citizens of Fannin County. The office belongs to you. I want to hear the concerns and ideas of the public. The result that we are looking for here is an office that the citizens are satisfied with and have confidence in when they need it. People should not have to ask themselves "Where is the Sheriff?"
2 . To restore the pride back into the Sheriffs Office, which will result in personnel showing much more desire to be a truly professional law enforcement officer. As your sheriff I will take an active role in the day to day operations of the sheriffs office, which will go a long toward accomplishing this goal.
3. Require and provide specialized training to officers that enables them to act professionally in a wider range of situations. The quality of the training will not be compromised by attempting to save tax dollars. We want our officers to be trained by the best of the best. I will assure all of you that under my leadership, this will happen. This is one area that we should not substitute quantity for quality. Law enforcement officers act as they are trained. That is the reason for demanding quality training.
4 .Take a more active role in the activities of our circuit wide drug task force. All officers should have extensive training that enables them to identify people who are under the influence of drugs and how to deal with them once they do. As your sheriff, I will make sure that Fannin County does it’s part to make the circuit task force a success and that our officers know what to look for to assist in making arrests. What we will NOT do is branch out on our own and create conflict with a program that is working. Meth is on the decline. This is due to hard work by the circuit task force and they will have my total support. It is a team effort.
5 . Implement policies and procedures in the jail, that are adhered to, that create a facility with minimum liability to the county and keep the inmates in jail.
6 . Keep our quality law enforcement officers working at home. Our trained law enforcement officers should not be working in Gilmer or Union Counties.
